The article substantiates the need for educational work among students in higher educational institutions. The author in his reflections relies on the discussion about the relationship between education and upbringing, which arose 160 years ago in Russian pedagogy. The analysis of the regulatory regulation of this important component of the educational process by the state is made. The special role of the teacher in this work is indicated. Separately, attention is drawn to the specifics of education during training sessions in educational organizations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The problems of conducting educational work in the distance format of the educational process are considered. Reflecting on the role of education in the life of a person with higher education, the author turns to the analysis of the concept of “intellectual” and correlates it with the concept of a highly moral person. The conclusion is made about the importance of educational work at all levels of education.
