The principle of adversarial proceedings is one of the fundamental principles of justice, ensuring fair and objective proceedings in criminal proceedings. This principle reflects the idea of equality of participants in criminal proceedings and guarantees each party the opportunity to present their own arguments and evidence in court in the form prescribed by law. The study of the historical aspect of the development and formation of the principle of adversarial parties allows us to trace the evolution of legal ideas reflecting changes in society and the formation of a modern legal system. The author of the study examined historical monuments of law, concluding that the adversarial nature of the parties is a key principle of the criminal process, ensuring equality of the parties in the prosecution and defense. The study shows how this principle has gone through many changes and improvements, reflecting the current realities of criminal proceedings in the Russian Federation.
