The subject of the study is public relations concerning the voluntary participation of citizens in measures to protect public order. The object of the study is the joint activities of citizens and internal affairs bodies on issues of public order protection in the mid-nineties of the last century. The authors examine in detail such aspects of the topic as interaction and its effectiveness using the example of internal affairs agencies and citizens. They detail the effectiveness of this activity, considering it through the prism of developing socio-economic relations. They dwell on the main areas of interactionbetween internal affairs agencies and citizens on issues of public order protection, and analyze the content of this activity using the example of domestic experience. A conclusion is made about the need to adjust the maintenance of statistical records on issues of public participation in public order protection activities in order to assess the effectiveness of this activity. In addition, it is necessary to concentrate the efforts of citizens who have expressed a desire to assist internal affairs agencies on identifying offenses, which will improve the quality of the activities of internal affairs agencies in combating crime.
