The socio-political and economic processes taking place in Russia are still characterized by social tension. One of its manifestations is the level of crime in general and homicides on domestic grounds in particular. The detection and investigation of such crimes is a priority for law enforcement agencies. However, even for such crimes, it is required operational support, which includes operational investigative activities when solving these crimes. The article discusses the “hot on the trail” operational search activity. The important features of such activities are outlined. The author concludes that it is necessary to respond quickly to a crime report and properly comply with the norms stipulated in the Federal Law “On Operational Investigative Activities”. Attention is focused on the use of non-standard approaches when planning actions for the implementation of operational investigative activities for such crimes. The article does not address the tactical specifics of the work of operational units.
