The article discusses some aspects of ensuring compensation for harm caused by a crime. The authors of the article come to the conclusion that currently the prosecution does not show sufficient activity, especially in pre-trial proceedings in a criminal case, in matters of compensation for harm caused by a crime. It is on this that success in fulfilling the public law obligation to protect the rights and legitimate interests of victims of crimes, including creating conditions for the restoration of their former position, largely depends. The authors believe that without effective criminal procedural activities of the preliminary investigation bodies, it is impossible to achieve the goal of criminal proceedings, which is formulated in paragraph 1, part 1, Article 6 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and consists in protecting the rights and legitimate interests of persons and organizations who have suffered from crimes, with priority to restoring violated rights. Based on the analysis of modern doctrine, measures are proposed aimed at eliminating the passivity of officials responsible for the application of interim measures to compensate for harm caused by a crime.
