The article discusses the classification of key elements of the forensic characteristics of crimes committed using information technology. An analysis of the views of researchers regarding the traces of a crime and the identity of the criminal is presented. A differentiation of the stages of crimes committed using information technology is proposed. Attention is drawn to the issues of improving the methodology for investigating the crimes under consideration.
