The article is devoted to the study of the administrative and legal status of the police, taking into account its significant role in the structure of the modern state apparatus. For the effective realization and respect of tangible and intangible social benefits, the State creates a special mechanism, the structure of which includes law enforcement and human rights bodies. The internal affairs bodies, in particular the police, are an integral attribute of the modern state, without which its normal functioning is impossible. It is concluded that the police is the most important law enforcement agency of the Russian Federation for ensuring public order and public safety, as well as for conducting both proceedings on most administrative offenses within the framework of administrative jurisdiction and in the field of criminal proceedings, preliminary investigation, including the conduction of urgent investigative actions.
