The article gives a brief description of the crimes committed in Russia in recent years. The growing role of operational units in the fght against crime is indicated. The value of inquiries is determined as one of the frequently used operational-search activities. The main methods of their implementation are given, the identifed disadvantages and advantages are listed. The existing problems in the implementation of inquiries and some ways to solve them are described.
